A transfer case is an automotive system designed to provide power to the front and rear wheels of a vehicle. It's part of the drivetrain, which means it works with transmission parts to make your car move.

It helps your car reach top speeds by rotating all four wheels at different rates. This allows you to accelerate and maintain momentum when driving downhill or on uneven terrain. A transfer case also allows you to switch between two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive, depending on the terrain you're driving through, or if it's raining out. Your vehicle may experience hydroplaning on a rainy day. Thus the switch to AWD helps maintain grip.

The transfer case is located between the transmission and axles. Each access is connected to a transfer case and includes gears, clutches, chains, and other mechanisms that allow for this function in your car.
